FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is ZipStrip and why use it for AI workflows?

ZipStrip prepares a project for AI review and coding workflows by filtering obvious noise, preserving useful project structure and readable content, and creating focused AI-ready context. Processing happens locally on your device.

What does AI Review do?

AI Review is a balanced preset for normal AI review and coding work. It includes useful source, configuration, documentation, tests, and supporting logic while excluding lockfiles, generated files, and SVG files by default.

What does Adversarial Review do?

Adversarial Review keeps lockfiles and useful verification, security, build, test, and project material for a more conservative AI review or coding audit, while still excluding generated files and SVG files by default.

What does Full do?

Full includes readable project material as broadly as practical, including lockfiles, generated files, SVG files, and unknown text files. Flagged secrets remain excluded unless the user explicitly includes them.

What does Source Only do?

Source Only focuses on source, configuration, documentation, interfaces, tests, and build or verification logic for lean AI review and coding context. Unknown text files, lockfiles, generated files, and SVG files are off by default.

Why are secrets redacted?

Project files can contain credentials or private keys that should not be sent to another AI unnecessarily. ZipStrip flags suspected secrets and can redact detected secret values when redaction is enabled.

What happens to generated files, dependencies and binary files?

Generated output, dependency trees, and binary or image assets are normally omitted when they add little readable context. ZipStrip records omissions and can keep omitted assets separately when supported.

SUPPORTED

Code, config, Markdown, JSON, YAML, SQL, XML, common text formats, plus PDF and DOCX text extraction.

RECURSIVE

ZIPs inside ZIPs are unpacked recursively, with safeguards against pathological nesting.

LOCAL

No project upload, no database, no AI API, and no backend required for the core conversion flow.
